Curriculum (Intent) |
-
Through quality text, linked to topics where possible, all learners access a curriculum that enables them to embed the skills and knowledge in reading, writing and spoken language they need to succeed in life. -
The English curriculum has been developed to recognise the importance of English in every aspect of daily life and to develop pupils’ love of reading, writing and discussion. -
Pupils in the early years gain the foundational knowledge they need for future success through a curriculum that is adapted to meet the needs and experiences of Our Lady’s pupils |
Pedagogy (Implementation) |
Teaching of Reading -
Through daily guided reading based on quality text, pupils learn to read easily, fluently, and with good understanding. -
Inference and deduction are taught during guided reading and built upon during class texts which are read daily to the class. Teaching of writing -
English is planned and carefully sequenced so that new knowledge and skills build on what has been taught before to enable the pupils to achieve the end point. -
Pupils are taught to write clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting their language and style in and for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences. -
Writing is organised around a clear learning sequence where children study and engage with a high-quality text and practise the grammar skills necessary for the genre before progressing into extended writing and editing. -
In KS1, Talk for Writing is used where appropriate to model and structure writing |
