Curriculum Overview

Our Curriculum is a broad and balanced, knowledge-rich primary curriculum. Its content is delivered through a range of subject-specific projects, which last either a full or half term.

Subject-specific projects cover art and design, design and technology, geography, history and science. These projects are delivered through the Cornerstones curriculum. Maths is delivered through projects from the White Rose Maths scheme, and English is linked to the topics that the children are studying. Please see individual Key Stage Long Term Plans for further information about what your child will be learning about at school.

Our curriculum is designed to give all learners the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.

We aim to provide an exciting and stimulating curriculum that is coherently planned and sequenced towards cumulatively sufficient knowledge and skills for future learning and employment. We plan for regular retrieval of weekly and previous learning to ensure that knowledge is remembered and that schemas are created to ensure children apply their knowledge in different contexts.

We provide a curriculum that promotes the holistic development of the individual child and place great value on mental health and well-being. We broaden children’s understanding of various cultures, developing empathy, respect and celebrating difference. We aim to develop confident learners for life who are able to embrace new challenges and experiences, work independently and collaboratively, so that they emerge as resilient and responsible learners with the life skills necessary for them to be successful. We encourage a mindful approach to relationships and learning in order to ensure that our children develop the knowledge and skills they need to become citizens of the 21st Century.

Our curriculum has been designed to inspire and engage all children, promote a positive attitude to learning and a thirst for knowledge through the provision of a range of relevant and inspirational active learning experiences that challenge, stimulate and promote thinking and independence.

Through our curriculum we strive to maximise children’s engagement in learning, raise aspirations and develop ambition within all children.

We deliver a curriculum which is enriched by experiences outside of the classroom, in the wider environment and in the local community. We recognise the importance of creating links within learning and believe that where links are effective, they enable pupils to apply their knowledge and skills across areas of learning. We directly teach skills and then plan opportunities for children to practise these skills. This allows children to embed new skills as well as bringing coherence and continuity to learning.
