Reception and Year 1

Maple Class

Welcome to Maple Class

On behalf of the Reception/Year 1 team I would like to offer a very warm welcome to both you and your child. This Reception/ Year 1 page will provide information about some of the fantastic learning your child will experience throughout this year.

In Maple Class we provide active experiences so that children can learn and explore through both adult supported and independent investigative play.  We strive to stimulate enquiry and engage children interests and have carefully designed our provision to meet the needs of all children. We aim to promote happy, self-confident and independent learners who love to support and care for one another

Our Class Teacher is Miss Rowe and our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Bruton and Mrs Fletcher.

Important Information:

Book Change: Reception and Year 1 pupils will bring home two books and these will be changed on a weekly basis. One book will be a Reading Scheme text which matches the phonemes (sounds) that the children have been taught in Phonics so that they have an opportunity to apply their new knowledge. The other book will be chosen by the child, from the School Library. Reading books will be changed every Friday.

PE: Your child will have PE every Wednesday and Friday afternoon. They should come into school wearing their PE kit and they will wear their kit all day.

Forest School: Your child will have a Forest School session every Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. Andrews. They will wear their wellies, which will be kept in school throughout the academic year, along with waterproof overalls. There are overalls available in school, or, your child can bring their own waterproof coat and trousers to wear each week, if you wish. During the colder months, please make sure your child has a hat, scarf and gloves (that you don't mind getting muddy) to wear in Forest School.

COOL Time (Carrying On Our Learning): Reception’s/ Year 1 COOL Time activities will be sent home every Monday and need to be completed and returned to school by the following Monday. More information and guidance about these activities will be inside your child's COOL Time Book.

Reading:We encourage 5-10 minutes of reading, in a short burst, each day.

Phonics/Tricky words Flash Cards:We encourage the use of the flashcards, in a short burst, each day.
