  • Support you to build positive relationships with your peers and adults

Our main topics are:

The phonics screening check takes place in June for all Year 1 children. This is a statutory national requirement. More detailed information will be provided nearer the time.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Reading Books

In Year 1 and 2, children should read at home every day for at least 5 minutes to build their fluency and confidence.

Some children in Year 2 will be accessing our Accelerated Reader scheme. They all have their reading level after completing their Star Reader Assessments. They read their book and complete a quiz, which tests their understanding and comprehension skills of what they have read. Children can change their books once they have quizzed.

Maths

MyMaths homework will be set on a Friday and should be done by the following Friday. The children have login details which have been sent home.

Spellings

In Year 1 and 2, children will be given a list of spellings to learn each week at home. They will be taken from a list of tricky words that Year 1 and 2 children are expected to learn (also known as 'common exception words'). Knowing how to spell these words will help to build their confidence in writing. Spellings can be learnt in lots of fun ways and some ideas for games and activities will be sent home with your child's list of words. Spellings tests will be on a Friday morning.

If you need any help supporting your child to read daily or learn their spellings please don't hesitate to speak to Mrs Darby or Mr Breslin - we are always happy to help!

Water bottles

Please send your child in with a full water bottle every day.

PE

PE is on a Monday and Friday. Please ensure children come to school in their PE kits on these days.

Forest School

Forest School is on a Wednesday morning.  As the weather gets colder and wetter children will require wellies, which will be kept in school. Children are required to have a waterproof coat and in the winter months, a hat, scarf and gloves that they don't mind getting muddy.

Year 1 and 2 alternate each half term.
